Culinary School

As part of a Cub Scout Merit Badge Requirement, Sweet Son #1 has to plan a menu and help cook a family meal. I sincerely hope that his culinary experience doesn't go the way of Edith Ann's sandwich.

Thursday Thirteen

This post brought to you by the letter B.

1. Blogging--Fun stuff, and I'm officially hooked. It's therapeutic, I tell ya! Sort of an online journal. :)

2. Boys--Love SS#1 and The Manimal (and, of course, The Man) more than anything in the world.

3. Best Friend--Mine's far away, but I love her dearly!

4. Beringer--I do love a good glass of wine, but I'm partial to the inexpensive White Zin from this vineyard. I also have a personal connection to the name, so it's a fave there as well.

5. Boston--We lived on Cape Cod for two years when I was a kid, and I have a vague memory of going to Boston for a school field trip. I'm excited that I'll be going there in March 2009 for a conference. Maybe I'll get to meet up with the famous Libby! :)

6. Bath--A nice hot one. With candles and wine. Locked bathroom door. Absolute Heaven!

7. Baked Beans--Our Pastor's wife makes the most amazing baked beans. She uses four or five different varieties and they're absolutely delish. I haven't quite mastered them, but mine aren't bad.

8. Babysitting--I made my teenage livelihood doing this. Nowadays, it seems like almost no kid babysits, because they're too busy with other activities. I'm fortunate to have a supply of college kids who are always looking to make a few extra bucks, and for some reason, my children are angels for them. Go figure!

9. Beatles--I love them, yeah, yeah, yeah!

10. Books--I think I've made my feelings for the written word perfectly clear. I love to read, and have been doing so since I was four. I have a vivid memory of Catherine Wooley/Jane Thayer coming to my elementary school to read to us. Bonus points if you know who she is!

11. Because I Said So--Unfortunately, I've invoked this parental phrase all too often, lately.

12. Bitter Cold--It was and is. Of course, this is Chicago in January.

13. Boy, Oh Boy, I can't wait until Saturday!--Because the temps in MouseLand are absolutely dreamy--upper 70's/low 80's!

Why Dogs Bite People

This was the title of an e-mail forward that I received recently. I'd love to credit the photographers or pet owners, but sadly, I can't. I can say that it does make sense. These canines must either have the patience of Job, or their owners pamper them to the point of royalty. They are the only two logical (or legal) explanations for the docile behavior while being forced to wear clothing (or costumes, as it were!).

I call her "Diva Dog".

Hula Girl here looks less than thrilled to be wearing that coconut bikini top. She probably hates her Ohana right now!

When cloning goes bad.

The irony of this costume is just too much to handle.

Maybe this dalmatian/holstein owner is from Wisconsin?

Sing it with me, now..."I'm leavin', 'cause I'm a jet plane!"

Notsomuch

Well, the good news is that my nasty head cold has yet to go "full-blown". The bad news is it's hanging around like a bad penny. You know the symptoms. Scratchy throat, stuffy head, snotty nose, tired, tired, tired. Have moved on to Zicam.

With the wannabe-cold hanging around, and the PILES of work on my desk and the TRIP looming large, I don't really have anything fabulous to tell you. Oh, and did I mention that the Man is on a business trip until Friday, leaving me alone with the boys in the midst of the craziness?

Enough whining. Check out some more of my fave blog reads while you're procrastinating.

Scatterbrain

I have a head cold. A real honest-to-goodness head cold. Can't remember the last time that happened. I'm taking Alka-Seltzer Cold three times a day, popping extra Multi-Vitamins, and mainlining Vitamin C in an attempt to stave off the beast.

Consequently, my thoughts are all over the place. What you see is the result of my inability to form a coherent string of thoughts.

We leave for MouseLand a week from today. The shuttle is picking us up at 5:00 IN THE MORNING. In order to get the brood ready, this means I'll have to get up at 3:45 IN THE MORNING. I'm tired just thinking about that.

I have yet to hear from "Guest Communications" regarding my transportation rant.

So my Man is traveling to Las Vegas to attend a trade show for work. On Tuesday we found out that the convention and lodging was booked for the Monte Carlo Resort. On Friday the hotel caught fire.

They moved the convention and lodging.

I'm traveling to Las Vegas in March for a professional association meeting. I'm presenting a session and have yet to create it. Did I mention my co-presenter won't be able to attend the conference so I'm flying solo?

Tonight I left the Man home with the boys and went to my first church small group meeting. It was so nice to have intelligent conversation with other adults. For fun. Not related to work. With no children. Woo-Hoo!

Went to Wal-Mart today. A sign above a dairy case said something about the products in that case and referred to "our's". This was a REAL sign, not handmade for the occasion, but an honest-to-goodness corporate sign. Sigh.

Trivial Pursuits

I'm very excited because I just found out that I'll be able to vote early, as I'll be out of town during the primary. It's even easier than absentee voting, because I just go down to our village hall and, well, vote!

Of course, this means that I actually have to choose a candidate. In trying to be an informed voter, I checked out Project Vote Smart, a non-partisan site with all kinds of great info. I can check out biographical information, voting records, campaign finance information, interest group ratings, etc.

And in case I'm interested, I can also find out the candidates "additional biographical information." Being interested, I checked it out, and found out some, well, interesting info.

For example, did you know that Mitt Romney drives a 2005 Ford Mustang Convertible? Maybe he could give Rudy Giuliani a ride, because he doesn't drive.

Or that John Edwards earned his first paycheck as a Soda Jerk with the Tar Heel Drug Company in Robbins, NC?

Mike Huckabee must be a closet meteorologist, since one of his favorite websites is http://www.accuweather.com/. And although Hillary's not my girl for the Oval Office, we do share a love of crossword puzzles and the book, "Goodnight, Moon".

Many of the candidates are pet people, but John McCain wins the "Dr. Doolittle" award for his menagerie: Sam, the English Springer Spaniel, Coco, the Mutt, Cuff and Link, both turtles, a cat named Oreo, a ferret, three parakeets and 13 saltwater fish.

Look out Barack, Bobby Flay might challenge you to a chili throwdown! Of course, John McCain likes to grill, so being a grill man himself, Bobby might head that way.

Mitt and Hillary are both "American Idol" fans. I wonder if they would've voted Sanjaya off sooner than the rest of America?

I have to admit that knowing this information, while it may not affect my political choices, does prove that there are some normal Americans under all of that political gaming and grandstanding.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow!

So in preparation for being two, The Manimal got his first haircut on Christmas Eve. Sweet Son #1 didn't have his first haircut until he was well into his second year, but this time, I got one too many "girl" comments.

Hair today...
Going... Going... Going... Gone!

All boy and now he looks it!

Thursday Thirteen

I love the idea of "Thursday Thirteen" that I've seen on many other blogs. I'm shamelessly stealing this particular idea from fellow blogger, Tommie.

This Thursday Thirteen brought to you by the letter "A":

1. Attentive is Princess Poopy Puppy's look each day when I make dinner.

2. Accounting is the class that was the bane of my existence in college.

3. Arts Management Minor is the reason I took the vile class in the first
place.

4. Antigo is the name of the town where I was born.

5. Apple Crumb Pie is my sister-in-law's baking specialty. It's soooo tasty!

6. Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite literary characters.

7. Ack! Thirteen is a lot of things!

8. Awesome was the word that most peppered my vocabulary in high
school. Way to be a child of the eighties!

9. Alaska is where my dad was stationed two times during my childhood. Each for a year. Each without the family.

10. An A-Frame Lodge is the main building for one of my favorite
getaways places, Hueston Woods.

11. Amazingly delicious is how I describe Ree's Olive Cheese Bread. You MUST try this recipe! I mean, it's so delicious, you'll want to eat the whole darn loaf.

12. An Air Force Brat was one of my descriptors growing up. Accounts for my respect of and gratitude for the servicemen and servicewomen who choose to serve and protect our country, and the family members who support and wait for them.

13. Amazed is how I feel that I could come up with thirteen A words!

Censored!

Now that The Manimal repeats EVERYTHING he hears, I have to be a bit more careful. Not that I have a potty-mouth, or anything, but I have lots of plastic bricks of varying sizes all over my house.

Did I mention that I like to go barefoot?

And that I'd prefer the dog consume actual edible foodstuff instead of plastic?

We have Star Wars and Batman legos, which means that I'm liable to find a miniscule R2D2 or Caped Crusader in my cushions.

We have Duplos, which are big legos for little kids. Too big for him to swallow, but small enough for me to step on and curse.

Of course, if my kids could build things like this (courtesy of Jenn),

maybe I wouldn't mind the bruising and bad puppy poop quite so much.

1.22.2008

Two

My sweet Manimal is two today. How in the world is this possible? Of course, I should've known what I was in for from the moment they laid him in my arms. His wailing in the hospital stunned even the veteran nurses. His lungs were legendary by the time we left.

But, yes, my baby is two today.

Last year we celebrated one, and even he could hardly believe it.

And now we are two and he's a little more casual about it. He's a big boy, after all.

A little craziness in my life, thanks to this sweet mischief-maker, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Happy Birthday, Monkey! I love you with all my heart!

Seven Year-Old Theology

It began as one of those rare serious conversations with Sweet Son #1. We were coming home from a visit with his cousin today, and as usual, were listening to a local Christian radio station.

Me: "Do you know what we call the day that Jesus rose from the dead?"

Sweet Son #1: "No."

M: "Easter."

SS#1: "Oh yeah! I knew that!" (of course he did, he's seven and knows everything) "Hey mom, I think I know who the Easter Bunny is."

At this point, I was sure that the "childhood magic", including the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus, was over. Bless his sweet little heart, I never could've predicted what came next.

M: "Really? Who?"

SS#1: "Jesus! See, if he rose from the dead on Easter, three days after he died, then he could be the Easter Bunny."

Drawing on the wisdom of Solomon himself, I chose to keep my mouth shut.

1.20.2008

It All Began With a Mouse

Well, we're at T minus 13 days and counting until my characters meet this character:

So I may have mentioned that there will be six adults and five boys, ages 4 months to 7 years. We went with the vacation packages and we're staying on property. We will be there for six days, with the intention of hitting all four parks throughout the week. Keeping all of that in mind, I'm open to suggestions from any Disney veterans/aficionados that might make our trip more enjoyable.

The Accidental Tourist

I'm all about credit where credit is due, so I have to tell you that I got this idea from Mel. Of course, her list is a bit more interesting than mine! :)

I love to travel. I don't get very many places, but it's always fun to reminisce, so here's where I visited in 2007.

Amherst, NY
Antigo, WI
Baltimore, MD
Keller, TX
Niagara Falls, Canada
North Richland Hills, TX
Williamsville, NY
Xenia, OH

In 2008, I'm headed to a few of the above destinations, but also to the following:

Las Vegas, NV
Orlando, FL
West Lafayette, IN

Oh, how I'd love to be a jet-setter, heading off to places more far-flung. Like Paris, London, Venice, Washington D.C., NYC, Boston, Toronto, San Diego, Honolulu. I could go on! Of course, then I'd have to travel to all of those fab locations with children.

Not sure I'm quite ready for that yet!

Word of the Day

Pecuniary

Pronunciation: \pi-ˈkyü-nē-ˌer-ē\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin pecuniarius, from pecunia money
Date: 1502
1 : consisting of or measured in money
2 : of or relating to money

Came across this word in a document today. Had NEVER heard of it before. Just thought you should be as baffled as I was!

Hey Windy City Girls!

Just in case you didn't make it to Lisagh's fabulous Virtual Soiree and see my comment, is anyone interested in a Chicagoland get-together? That's one event I'd totally love to coordinate! :)

Let's do something to take our minds off of this frigid weather we're having (and expecting more of!)

Drop me an email or leave a comment if you're interested!

Leave Your Message at the Sound of the Tone

That's my new philosophy!

Or at least how I feel lately. I'd like to just turn the answering machine on in my life for a few days and take a break.

I love Kristin Chenoweth. I'd love to be able to sing and dance like her. Check her out in this excerpt from "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown", as performed at the 53rd Annual Tony Awards (winning Kristin her first Tony). Maybe you'll discover a new philosophy!

Warning: Body Function Mentions

The Manimal has a routine.

He wakes up in the morning, I change his diaper. Sometime while I'm getting dressed, he poops. I change said poopy diaper and he's usually good to go for the day.

The last two days, he's added an early evening poop. Yesterday, when I said "Manimal, you pooped. I need to change your diaper", he shook his finger at me with all of the almost-two-ness he could muster and said "NO MOM! You 'tay dere!" And off he went.

On an unrelated note, C25K is going remarkably well. Anyone else?

How cute are these framed monograms?

I think I might need one. Or five.

Check out Cami's handiwork at The Sassy Flip Flop. Only $20 plus shipping. What a fun little gift for yourself or your favorite preppy!

A Rant

I'm livid. Furious. Outraged. Flabbergasted. Astonished.

And I must vent.

So we're planning this trip to Disney in February. Two weeks from Saturday, actually. Our family, my brother's family and my parents. All headed down with all FIVE children to meet the mouse.

We each purchased Disney Vacation Packages. All told, before airfare and incidentals, we're spending close to $9000. We went with the packages because they are all-inclusive.

Or so we thought.

One of the perks when you purchase a Disney package is Magical Express. This is free transportation from the Orlando Airport to your hotel property.

The children are ages 4 mos., 2 years, 3 1/2 years, 5 years and 7 years. In most states, they would all be in some sort of child safety seat. In Florida (and many others, I assume), child restraints are not required for mass transportation, such as the Magical Express Motor Coach. When we expressed concern, particularly for the two youngest, we were told that we could hold them on our laps for the 30-45 minute drive. Has anyone ever tried to hold a 2 year old for that long? In a bus? And since when is it safe to hold an infant on your lap in a moving vehicle?

Unacceptable.

Here's my beef. Disney World is arguably the #1 family destination in the world. They are the gold standard when it comes to customer service, event planning, and hospitality. I don't care who OWNS the buses. If Disney includes "free transportation" in their vacation packages (targeted at families, remember), then there should be an option for child restraints. Families with small children could be picked up in vans with seat belts.

And I certainly don't appreciate the associate telling me that Disney didn't own or operate the buses, but they had the Disney logo. Sorry dear, but I don't care about that. Any first year marketing student will tell you that once you slap your logo on something, then according to the customer, it's YOURS.

Now, I know this isn't true, but since I'm the "guest" here, my impression is what counts. By providing an option that doesn't have seat belts or child restraint accommodations, Disney is showing complete disregard for the safety of my children. I don't care that the motor coach is very safe, and there haven't been any accidents in three years. When it comes to the safety of children, Disney should be BENDING OVER BACKWARDS.

Yes, I realize that this is a "free" service. But when I spend THIS MUCH MONEY on a DISNEY vacation package that INCLUDES transportation to your hotel and back to the airport, I expect that it will be safe for EVERYONE in my party.

Again, don't tell me that the motor coaches are perfectly safe and not to worry because an accident isn't going to happen. Because, Disney, all it will take is one accident, and the Year of a Million Dreams will turn into the Year of a Million Nightmares, and you can bet your Mickey ears that you'll be wishing on a star that you'd addressed this sooner.

After speaking with no less than FOUR people in different offices, I was told that I could WRITE to Guest Communications with my concern. So I will. And you should too.
wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com.

Rant over.

Cheers!

Sometimes I Just Need To Remember...

My favorite hymn is "Amazing Grace". Penned by John Newton in the eighteenth century, the lyrics are a prayer of their own. Rarely are all verses sung, and there are variations on many. Here are my favorites:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The world shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun refuse to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

***

"Grace means there is nothing we can do to make God love us more–no amount of spiritual calisthenics and renunciations, no amount of knowledge gained from seminaries, no amount of crusading on behalf of righteous causes. And grace means there is nothing we can do to make God love us less..Grace means that God already loves us as much as an infinite God can possibly love."

(What's So Amazing About Grace? by Philip Yancey)

***

...that I am truly in control of nothing. Only He has complete control.

Run, Forrest, Run!

One of my New Year's Non-Resolutions is to eat healthier and exercise regularly. I've never been a runner, but I've always had incredible admiration for people who, well, run. I've could also do with a bit of the serenity that I've heard so many runners feel when they're "in the zone".

In that light, I've taken on the Couch to 5K training plan that Sasha posted about here. I started today, and, while I'm obviously not seeing any real results or benefits yet, it is pretty cool.

Anyone else want to join me?

Cheers!

Sunday Dinner

I snagged this fun little meme from Donna's blog. I changed the title a bit, but still fun. Tag to anyone game to try it! :)

APPETIZER: What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?

Marie. It's a sort of family name. We're loaded with Maries and Marys all over my mom's side of the family (Good Catholics). It's pretty typical and the first one people think of when they hear my first name. I don't like my first name at all, never have. Not sure what I'd change it to, though. My grandma used to say that she didn't care what she was called as long as people didn't swear at her. I think that's a good plan.

SOUP: If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors and styles would you probably use the most?

Not that this would come as a surprise to my blogging buddies, but I'm a pretty classic person. Natural fabrics in timeless colors and styles are givens. I love a classic look with a splash of color, like brown glen plaid trousers with a crisp white or cream shirt and an apple green handbag.

SALAD: What is your least favorite chore and why?

Oy. I hate housecleaning in general, but I REALLY hate cleaning the bathrooms. Not sure why, just the general ickiness, I suppose. Of course, I always have a wonderful sense of satisfaction when it's done.

ENTREE: What is something that really frightens you and can you trace it back to an event in your life?

Being a mom, I have to say that the thought of losing my children is terrifying. When SS#1 disappears for two seconds in a department store, my heart stops.

DESSERT: Where are you sitting right now? Name three things you can see at this moment.

At the computer desk in the kitchen. My ever-present Diet Coke, my copper pot rack (I *heart* my copper pot rack!), and my family photos in the hall.

Fun stuff for Sunday Dinner!

Cheers!

You Look Mah-ve-lous!

So how do you like it? I absolutely love my new look, but I can take absolutely no credit for this fab new look. It's all due to the artistic abilities of the mah-ve-lous, creative, preppy Lisagh, a Diva herself! Kiss-kiss, dearie, and thanks ever so much!

New Clothes

I'm kind of (read "very") tired of the generic look of my blog. I'm looking for a free or fairly inexpensive new look. Can anyone help me with this?

Cheers!

Yawn

It's Friday.

I'm tired.

In a funk.

Manimal awake at oh-dawn-thirty.

Crazy dog thinks she's a human child.

Higglytown Heroes song going through my head.

Incessantly.

No idea what to make for dinner tonight.

Have to buy a birthday gift for a two-year-old.

Party tomorrow night.

Laundry tonight.

And tomorrow.

You?

Re-Solutions?

I wanted to write something pithy and inspirational about New Year's Resolutions, seeing as how we are ten days into 2008 and I have yet to put mine down on paper. It seems that every year, folks make the same resolutions. Lose weight, get more organized, reconnect with old friends, get a better job, clean the basement, remodel the bathroom, you get the idea.

While the very idea of putting my "resolutions" down on paper scares the heebie-jeebies out of me, I decided that it might not be such a bad thing.

Then again, do you know what Mark Twain said about New Year Resolutions? "New Year's Day… now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual."

Maybe I'll try to have an unpaved road this year.

Cheers!

My Fave Five

Because I know how much people like to receive unsolicited advice, here are my current five favorite products.

Doorknob covers have given me a semblance of peace while the Manimal works on learning something new.
The Take-Along Tether is amazing. Invented by a mom who was tired of the "drop game" that every child plays, it has so many uses. I can't stress how much easier this little item has made grocery shopping, soccer games, walks to the park, church, etc.

My Sharper Image LED Book Light allows plenty of light when I read in bed at night. It is also sturdy enough to withstand curious children. Before I found this, Sweet Son #1 managed to break three book lights when he was a tot, and the Manimal was running a close second with two. Unfortunately, I think you have to troll eBay to find them now!

I've been a pretty regular tooth-brusher all my life. You know, twice a day and all that. But my Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush makes me want to brush my teeth forever! Took a while to get used to it, but my teeth feel like I've been to the dentist every day!

And as long as we're on the subject of toothbrushes, I FINALLY found something to make SS#1 WANT to brush his teeth. Tooth Tunes makes this fab toothbrush that plays music when you apply the correct amount of pressure while you're brushing. AND it tells you how long to brush by how long the song plays. LOVE IT!

Cheers!

We're Havin' a Heat Wave (For Now)...

Yesterday in our suburban Chicago haven (hahahahaha), we hit SEVENTY DEGREES! Yes, folks, that's SEVEN-ZERO. As in no snow, no ice, spring jacket, play outside weather.

According to the weather experts (hahahahaha), Chicago "smashed" the previous high of 59 degrees with a balmy 65. Obviously it's warmer here out west.

Normally at this time of year, we're digging out from the most recent blizzard, or laying salt to melt the inches of ice. Yesterday, though, it was more like a decent spring day. Somewhat overcast, damp, but unseasonably warm.

Now, we all know that this isn't normal, and it's likely that Mother Nature was simply suffering from multiple personality disorder or an identity crisis, because last night around 5:15, the floodgates opened, and we may have been in India during monsoon season. We had the mother of all thunderstorms, and it rained ALL.NIGHT. More rain is predicted for today and tonight, so the area is under flood warnings. Of course, being Chicago, the temperatures are predicted to be in the high twenties tonight, and snow is predicted by Friday.

We'll just call Mother Nature by her real name. El Nino, La Nina?

Nope.

Sibyl.

Queen, Doorknobs and Other Child-Related Topics

So one of Sweet Son #1's favorite songs as of late is the Queen standard "We Will Rock You". While I'm not completely sure where my sweet 7 year old first heard this oldie, I do know that he's heard it at baseball games and a recent excursion to a hockey game. He sings it EVERYWHERE.

What he doesn't realize (and I don't think I fully did until recently) is that The Manimal's language skills are developing at the speed of light. He repeats EVERYTHING.

Yesterday, M was playing with Play-Doh and chattering to himself (takes after Mom). I was only half-listening, but suddenly I heard "turn around and drop you" clear as a bell. As I tuned in, I realized he was singing the song, as sung by SS#1.

As I write this, he's marching around the house, diaper-less, carrying his potty chair flush against his little bottom chanting "hup! two, free, four!"

Now if he would only do the deed in the potty chair.

He has managed to breach the bathroom, and every other room in the house. Yes, dear readers, The Manimal has mastered the doorknob. Today's post-church shopping excursion was to purchase doorknob covers.

I didn't feel so bad though. After sharing his latest milestone with my pastor in church this morning, he shared a story about a friend who had to buy a refrigerator lock because her DOG figured out how to open the fridge. She discovered this when she came downstairs one morning and found food all over the kitchen floor. At least I don't have to dog-proof my house for the Princess! That might push me over the edge.

Hopefully Monty, Boston, Paris and Devil Dog aren't forcing their humans to pet-proof their homes. I think Marilyn's human is probably safe from such dangers. Although she may may have to be careful if Boston and Paris ever visit.

Cheers!

Caucus, Schmaucus

I have to preface this post by saying that I'm not trying to start a political discussion. I do have Republican preferences, but typically vote the issues and have been known to vote for a Democrat if I feel s/he is the most qualified candidate.

That being said, I have to say that I was quite entertained by the goings-on of the recent Iowa Caucuses (Is there a more absurd word?). In particular, I was entertained by one candidate Governor Mike Huckabee.

I have to say that, while I respect him as a public servant, I have trouble imagining a "President Huckabee". Sounds suspiciously, well, Mayberry-ish. The media has taken a bit of journalistic liberty (I know this surprises all of you.) with this particular candidate's surname. At any rate, the media is talking about the "Hucka-boom", evidently referencing the hubub surrounding his candidacy.

How about "Oba-mania"? Or "Hilla-rity" (sorry, that was definitely a little jab there)? Or maybe "Mitt-itis"? I guess that last one sounds like a disease...

No, it's definitely the name. "Huckabee" just lends itself to creativity. Will his supporters be called "Huckabites" or "Huckabanians"?

What about an official campaign dance? They could call it the "Hucka-Bucka". Trader Joe's could release a special wine called "Hucka-Bucka Chucka's". And what would this dance look like? I envision it something like Elaine's dance on "Seinfeld". But that's just me.

Wanna dance?

Cheers!

There's No Place Like Home

Wouldn't you know it? The day we head home, the weather is a gorgeous 75 degrees. Sunny, billowy white clouds, blue sky. when we leave the Big D.

When we approached the Windy City, it was overcast, drizzly and 42 degrees. Ah well, travel is wonderful, but there is no place like home.

Two minutes (I kid you not!) after being home, Sweet Son #1 asked to go to a friend's house to play. The Manimal was so excited to be home, he could hardly stop babbling. All of the Christmas toys are new again, and his language skills seem to have quadrupled in the last ten days. Childhood language development never ceases to amaze me! Of course, this means he repeats everything. And I do mean EVERYTHING! So far, we've managed to keep his mouth relatively clean, but it's a growing battle! :)

One of the best things about being home is getting back into a routine, and I am looking forward to that. Tomorrow will be church, which will jump-start that routine quite nicely, then it's back to work, daycare and school for all of us.

I'll have pictures soon!

Cheers!

All Mixed Up

So yesterday wasn't day four. It was day three. This does not bode well for my year if I'm this confused already! :)

We're off to do a cousins portrait today. Pray for the sanity of two moms and a grandma...

Cheers!

Day Four and It's a Bust

OK, I'm not at all sure where January has gone, but it's all about new beginnings, so I'm committed from here on out! :) We're off to the Dallas Children's Museum today. Hope everyone is enjoying the new year!

Cheers!
